Both the students and I have been learning Te-Reol Maori in our classroom. As i am new to New Zealand I am unfamiliar with the langguage and thought what better way to learn it than with the children. We have been practising simple greetings and letting each other know how we fee. below is alittle video of us calling the roll. As i am new to New Zealand and in the teaching profession, I felt it was important to build connections and relations ships with the children, their culture and whanau. I feel this is vitally important to acknowledge children's heritage and culture. In order to do this I needed to up skill in Maori culture and language so I have enrolled on a course that will help me with my development. Anzac day is an important day in New Zealands calendar. This year marked the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign. Room 25 marked this day by taking on the role of soldiers for the day. We worked in the trenches, listened to re-counts, wrote letters home to parents and loved ones and held a minutes silence while we listened to the last post. The children were fully engaged in their learning thoroughout the day and some of the letters home were very emotional. |
