During the evening I explained the task boards to parents and also showed them my weebly blog. The parents seemed very interested in the blog so I need to get my consent letters out.

Although last years assessment worked well in their books i found it a bit too busy so this year I have changed tactics and used the one of the NZ curriculum website. It seems better for me and for my students as they can see exactly where they need to go next. I just highlight what they have achieved and talk about where to next. I decided a new year, new ideas. One of these ideas was a new planning template for reading. fter browsing various sights I found a one that looked amazing. It was coloured co-ordinated that matched the level of the reading books, containedvarious WALTS and lots of other useful information. During the second week I was very excited to try it out. Well, it didn't work. There was too much information and also the children were all at different levels within the groupings. I also had one group on red and yellow level books and I had to keep flicking from one planning sheet to another, it was too much and was was taking my concentration away from the students I was working with. I decided that my planning of last year worked really well, it didn't have all the fancy coloured co ordinated planning of the new model but it worked for me last year so why change it. I have reverted back to my old style planning, I feel more confident, I have more time to focus on my students which is beneficial for their learning. |
