In numeracy we have been learning about statistics. We gathered data about our pets then plotted the findings onto a pictograph. Next we compared the results and we noticed that dogs were the most popular, followed by cats, then hamster, fish and chicken. We also worked out how many more dogs there were than cats and how many more cats than hamsters. Below are some photos of us hard at work.
In Literacy this week we have been learning about the Rain forest in anticipation of our community event. We have also been looking at using adjectives in our writing to make it more interesting to our readers. Whaea Karen put some 'boring' words on bits of paper around the room, then we walked around the tables adding more exciting words instead. Then we did the same with pictures of animals from the rain forest and we added some exciting descriptive words such as exotic blue feathers, long thin arms, beautiful skin, fierce face etc. Here we are working at the stations, adding our exciting words. Thanks to Deb Graham for the photos. What a lot of fun we had making things from cardboard, and junk. Masses of sellotape later we had, suits of armour, pet houses, boats and minecraft models. Top Dog is a very social dog, he has been on so many adventures his journal is completely full! Here is having a great time making rice pudding, climbing up a rock face , walking to school and dancing! We had a great day on the last day of term, we all dressed in red then at lunchtime we went to visit the Westpac Helicopter. We also covered the tables in paper and had a huge art lesson! Thanks to the parent that came to talk to the children about their chosen careers, the children were all enthralled in each visit and learned a lot. Sorry to those parents that volunteered but we're not asked. This was due to timetable restrictions but we are still very grateful for your offer and hope to have visit our classroom some time soon. Here are some photos of the visits from the police and dog handler, nurses, boat handler, boat skipper and an engineer. We had great time yesterday during discovery time. There was lots of collaborative play, and good oral language. We enjoyed mixing, pouring and experimenting to see what would happen when we added sand and water to different sized tubs and jugs. Everyone remained on task and were very disappointed when the activity came to an end. A great time was had by all and we learnt a lot about the fire service. Thanks to all the parents who gave up their time to help out, the trip would not have been possible without you. |
